Seminar on Climate Change: What Policy And Preventing Measures Against Typhoons And Floods


Coorgansied by Rui Cunha Foundation, DOCOMOMO Macau and Open Institute of City University of Macau (CityU-OI), Seminar on Climate Change: What Policy And Preventing Measures Against Typhoons And Floods was held at Ho Yin Convention Centre at CityU on 29 November 2018.

 

 

The seminar invited Prof Christine Loh, Chief Development Strategist at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technoloy, and former Under Secretary for the Environment in HKSAR Government; and Mr Billy Chan, Director of the Transmission and Distribution Department of Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM).

 

 

Hosted by Architect Rui Leão, Chair of DOCOMOMO Macau, the seminar began with an overview by Director Chan, in which he introduced a range of measures CEM taking to respond to the challenges of climate change, and some of the local critical infrastructure facilities that help strengthen the stability of power supply during extreme weather events; followed by the presentation from Prof. Loh, who pointed out that extreme weather events in light of a changing climate will bring stronger storms, heavier rains and higher temperatures in the Greater Bay Area, and discussed what needs to be done in climate adaptation and resilience. The seminar attracted a number of Urban Planning students from Faculty of Innovation and Design of CityU and registered architects, engineers, and urban technicians in Macau.

 

 

Also attending were Dr. Rui Cunha, President of Rui Cunha Foundation; Dra. Filipa Guadalupe, Director of CRED-MD – Center for Reflection, Study and Dissemination of Macau Law; and Prof. José Alves, Director of Open Institute of CityU.
