Closing Ceremony of Workshop on Intellectual Property Protection for the PSCs


Co-organised by Training Centre of Forum Macau (Centro de Formação do Fórum de Macau) and City University of Macau (CityU), the Closing Ceremony of Workshop on Intellectual Property Protection for the Portuguese Speaking Countries (Portuguese: Colóquio sobre a Protecção da Propriedade Intelectual para os Países de Língua Portuguesa) was held at the Grand Ballroom at MGM Macau on 13 November 2018. The Ceremony began with speeches by Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau, Ms Xu Yingzhen; Vice-Rector of CityU, Professor Kong Fan Qing; and Representative of the Workshop, Mr Vinicius Bogea Câmara; followed by the presentation of certificates to participants who have successfully completed the Workshop.

 

 

In her speech, Vice Rector Kong said: ‘Given the ever-increasing attention paid by the Central Government to the protection of intellectual property, more business opportunities have been made available for companies from the PSCs attempting to enter the Chinese market'.

 

 

Also attending the ceremony were Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, Mr Zhang Jianhua; Consul General of Angola in Macau, Ms Sofia Pegado da Silva; Consul General of Moçambique in Macau, Mr Rafael Custodio Marques; Consul General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong, Mr Paulo Cunha Alves; Representatives of the PSCs from Forum Macau; and Dean of Faculty of Business cum Director of Open Institute of CityU, Prof. José Alves.

 

 

The Workshop took place in Macau, Zhuhai and Guangzhou from 29 October to 13 November 2018. The workshop brought together 28 government officials, business executives, academics, legal consultants, and industry representatives from the PSCs, including Brasil, Cabo Verde, Guiné-Bissau, Moçambique, Portugal, and São Tomé e Príncipe.

 

 

During the trip to Mainland China, the participants visited Hengqin International Intellectual Property Trading Centre Co. Ltd., and took part in the ‘China-Latin America and the Caribbean (CLAC) International Exposition’ in Zhuhai and the ‘Canton Fair’ in Guangzhou. In Macau, the participants attended a series of lectures related to intellectual property law in the context of multinational investment; the progress of cooperation in intellectual property rights between China and the PSCs; the advantages of Macau’s platform role for the promotion of cooperation in intellectual property rights between China and the PSCs; and the role of intellectual property rights in the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ and the ‘13th Five-Year Plan’; and visited a number of government departments, associations and companies in Macau. Also, the participants attended the ‘1st Summit of the Knowledge Innovation and Transfer Network between China, and the B&R Portuguese-speaking and Latin-American Countries – Cooperation Prospects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area’ organised by City University of Macau.
