Brief introduction to the Seminar on ‘Financial Big Data and Internet Finance’:
As a brand new business form that integrates traditional finance with Internet technologies, the Internet finance demonstrates scientific and inclusive growth, therefore, not only achieving strong development but greatly driving the traditional financial industry to think how to change its business models. Though originated in Western countries, the Internet and big data technologies acquired the best soil for development in China. In Greater China, they’re penetrating into, even overturning, traditional industries, such as logistics, tourism, manufacturing, and financial industry recently. Big data credit assessment is replacing traditional credit risk assessment; P2P lending is replacing traditional business of depositing and loaning; crowd funding is taking away part of the traditional businesses of investment banking; third-party e-payment has partially replaced the traditional payment systems; and WeChat red packet is taking the place of traditional red packets.
To support such processes, the emergence of the Internet technologies creates financial data in huge volume that changes our living, working and thinking styles, and these data are in fact big data in financial services, meaning that by collecting large volume of structured and non-structured data. The data sets provide all-round clients’ information for suppliers of Internet financial services after real time analysis, and by analyzing and seeking the trading and consumption information of clients, their activities and consumption habits can be learnt to forecast their behaviors as well as the services and products they need. The investment in this respect will be the most important resource investment for Internet finance in product design, marketing, risk pricing and risk transfer.

Wealth management starts from understanding the financial market condition, then making decisions about how to allocate assets and select suitable financial products, finally executing position and risk management. How to make such process more transparent and effective? Technologies in Internet Finance and Financial Big Data help investors better understanding the future movement of the markets, identifying the products and services they need, as well as assessing the return and risk of individual financial products. At the same time, such technologies also help financial institutions to better understanding the needs and requirements from the clients and faster design the products to meet their requirements, and finally more accurately assessing the risks and help clients mitigating their risks.
