Bio of Dr. Mike Cortrite

Dr. Cortrite has been studying leadership as a practitioner and as an academic for over 35 years.

As a practitioner he worked for over 30 years in a Los Angeles area police Department as a police officer, supervisor, and manager. In 1981 he was promoted to a supervisory position and this started his lifelong quest to understand leadership and human motivation.

As an academic he has been a professor for the last 17 years and earned his Doctor of Education in Leadership from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He currently teaches classes in leadership and management in Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Public Administration at California State University and the California Institute of Advanced Management.

His dissertation was on the effectiveness of using servant leadership in police departments and he has continued his research in this area.
